Summary

This Language Partners training is designed for gas and electrical engineers who already have a basic knowledge of Dutch (minimum CEFR-level A2-)  and would like to progress to CEFR-level B2 or higher in Dutch for professional purposes.

Description

This Language Partners training combines general language development with job-specific vocabulary required by gas and electrical engineers. It focuses on developing speaking, reading, and listening skills in work-related situations.

Before the training begins, specific learning objectives are established together with the participant. The trainer then tailors the format and content to meet these goals and to the participant’s starting level, using both a mix of existing and new materials.

Participants are also encouraged to bring in their own workplace materials, such as safety instructions or tool lists.

Format (structure and training set-up )

This training combines personal guidance with independent learning, so you get the most out of your training:

  • Individual lessons with a trainer: 1-to-1 online or on location (upon request and at an additional cost).
  • Practical assignments - directly applicable to your daily work.

Training structure

  • 30 hours in total, divided into 15 sessions of 2 hours.
  • Depending on the starting level, we recommend 1 to 3 sessions per week.

Topics

The training develops job-related speaking, reading, and listening skills. Examples include:

  • Language skills required to participate in the VCA training
  • Understanding safety instructions and safety requirements
  • Customer contact (e.g. polite forms of address, handling difficult customers, apologising, understanding regional accents)
  • Giving instructions / explaining / warning / advising
  • Technical vocabulary, such as tools, materials, and vehicles
  • Collaborating with Dutch-speaking colleagues
  • Understanding instructions from colleagues or supervisors
  • Understanding the differences between Standard Dutch and spoken Dutch
  • Commonly used expressions in everyday language

Specific goals are established with the participant/client before the training begins.
