Sleight of Mouth is about the magic of words and language. Language is one of the key representational systems from which we build our mental models of the world and has a tremendous influence upon how we perceive and respond to the world around us.   As Sigmund Freud pointed out: “Words and magic were in the beginning one and the same thing.” The right words at the right time can be uplifting, changing the course of someone’s life for the better; opening up new vistas and possibilities.  Unfortunately, words can also confuse and limit us as easily as they can empower us.  The wrong words at the wrong time can be hurtful and damaging.  Sleight of Mouth patterns come from the study of how language has been, and can be, used to make an impact on people’s lives and emotions. Sleight of Mouth patterns are made up of verbal categories and distinctions by which key beliefs can be established, shifted or transformed through language. Sleight of Mouth patterns can be characterized as “verbal reframes” which influence beliefs, and the mental

maps from which those beliefs have been formed.  These patterns provide a powerful tool for persuasion and conversational belief change.    Strategies of Genius Promote a Useful Mindset for Ecologically Applying Sleight of Mouth  It is important to have a way to know when beliefs have the potential to empower us and others and to support positive change and human evolution. Such guidelines can help neutralize limiting beliefs and thought viruses and guide us to reframe them into a more productive and helpful form.   The Strategies of Genius provide some good ways to ensure that the Sleight of Mouth patterns are being used in a productive and helpful manner. Strategies of Genius refers to the mental strategies and patterns that highly creative and effective individuals use to achieve extraordinary results. These strategies involve specific ways of thinking, perceiving, and interacting with the world that enable individuals to solve problems, innovate, and influence others effectively such as: 

1. The use of imagination to envision possibilities and create innovative solutions.
2. The ability to view situations from different angles and entertain various points of view.
3. Thinkingsystemicallyand focusing on the "deep structure" of problems rather than just the surface details, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of complex systems. 
4. Focus on future possibilities anda belief in what can be achieved. 
5. Viewing setbacks as feedback rather than failure,maintainingdetermination and resilience 
6. Employing metaphors and analogies to simplify complex ideas and communicate them effectively.
7. Integrating sensory experiences to enrich understanding and creativity.
8. Feeling connected to something beyond individual identity, contributing to a larger purpose.
9. The ability to shift between detailed andbig-picturethinking as needed. 

These strategies are often observed in the behaviors and thought processes of historical figures and contemporary leaders known for their exceptional contributions to their fields and can help to avoid, neutralize or transform potentially limiting beliefs and “thought viruses.”  In this program, we will explore the power of words to be either helpful or harmful, the distinctions that determine the type of impact words will have, and the language patterns through which we can transform harmful statements into helpful ones.
